Summary

This course is designed specifically for students who want to enter professional practice as clinical hypnotherapists. It builds on the knowledge of hypnosis you gain on the Continuing Professional and Personal Development (CPPD) course in Clinical Hypnosis.

You will continue developing your case-management skills, including the ability to assess, evaluate, and solve problems – identifying ethical issues within a therapeutic setting and applying these to clinical studies to include medical applications of hypnotherapy. You will develop a sound knowledge of how key psychotherapeutic disciplines inform hypnotherapeutic practice, and the ability to apply a more eclectic approach to therapy based on sound rationalised treatment strategies for clinical practice. You will learn to incorporate cognitive, behavioural, analytical and individual psychology approaches, as appropriate, to each setting.

Throughout the course, theory and practice interweave significantly. For example, content at Level 7 is a blend of theory and explanation, combined with practical application, and is designed to give you a thorough understanding of the theory and principles of clinical hypnotherapy.

The curriculum is designed to develop reflective and critical therapists who can provide excellence in managing and treating a wide range of symptoms, while integrating it fully into conventional medical environments.

Clinical Studies and Hypnotic Techniques

This module helps you apply clinical hypnosis to the therapeutic setting and develop skills that will inform professional clinical practice. We introduce the application of powerful hypnotic techniques that enhance the psychotherapeutic change process to the treatment of clinical and non-clinical symptoms.

You will develop your knowledge of hypnosis and learn how to apply it in a clinical setting. You will gain expertise in hypnotic techniques and the ability to communicate them in an effective and persuasive manner.

Psychotherapeutic Studies

This module runs alongside Clinical Studies and Hypnotic Techniques, and considers all the major schools of psychotherapy, incorporating cognitive, behavioural, analytical and individual psychology approaches. We focus on identifying, refining and applying the psychological theories behind the major schools of psychotherapy to the hypnotic model. We explore and consider each approach with reference to clinical studies, and you learn and develop clinical expertise in psychotherapeutic interventions within Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Note: this does not give applicants a qualification.

LCCH will provide appropriate bridging courses for students who hold previous LCCH qualifications and wish to apply through bridging assessments into the postgraduate suite of Awards.

Through class discussion, study groups and supervision, we encourage you to analyse and reflect critically on your learning, and develop the level of critical thinking appropriate for professional practice.

The learning experience is very practical, and encourages you to develop a much deeper understanding of the theories behind hypnotic techniques and therapeutic processes. We encourage analysis and reflection on your own learning, which is key to your success with this course and beyond.

The course includes lectures, tutor-led group discussions, student-led learning groups, tutorials and independent study.
